Hoverboards, also known as balance boards with the technology of self-balancing, are an example of innovation and technology. These boards have made a great example of innovation which provides easy travel for most of the people by standing on a board without bars and handles coming in as hot scooters. A normal person may wonder how a hoverboard works as the science behind the working of this board is pretty much advanced.
For most the people, these are types of toys for their children to take a spin in the neighborhood in the evening and spend their time out using a hoverboard which feels pretty different and amazing to experience. In case you wonder how a hoverboard works, then you must know what things make it unique and able to work in a way like no ordinary equipment would.
Here are few things that a hoverboard has in order to ride and control with good mobility.
Accelerometer:
This meter is useful as it measures the position in linear 3 dimensions with the help of variable capacitance. A capacitor is used for each dimension where one plate is kept constant while the other one can change its position. This is a sensitive process in which when the distance changes between the plates; the capacitance is also changed. And voltage is adjusted that gives quantifiable value to monitor things.
Gyroscope:
Gyroscope is an amazing technology component that is important in a hoverboard to work properly. This gives great angular movements and shifts with the change and shift of mass with the gyro. This gyro uses a Coriolis Effect for the mass that is moving in a direction at a certain velocity with the perpendicular motion and its effect of angular velocity on it.
Magnetometer:
The magnetometer is a useful component that works fine with the magnetic field having an effect as the effect to earth’s magnetic field due to the Hall Effect principle. This makes it crucial to be used in the movement of a hoverboard.
How a Hoverboard Works
Now we come to the point about how a hoverboard actually works.
Tilt and Movement
When a hoverboard is tilted to a particular angle by exerting a force on the forward or backward side, the gyroscope sends the data to a logic board that helps to execute the motor, which allows an easy rotation of wheels in order to form a movement and help the rider to go in a particular direction. The wheels of the Hoverboard send signals to the gyroscope for turning. When a user moves the right foot ahead, the right motor is shut off and the left motor for the wheel powers it, and a right turn is formed in this way. Similarly, the process can be done for the left turn.
IR Sensors
The IR sensors are pretty interesting, which work with the use of Infrared rays to get data that is reflected from any oncoming object or the presence around the Hoverboard from a certain distance. This can be helpful for several reasons.
Speed and Tilt Sensors
These sensors are included to provide a signal to the Hoverboard to detect the speed and control the tilt angles in order to provide movement for a rider. The data of these sensors is sent to a gyroscope and logic board that helps to determine and control the speed.
Logic Board
The Logic board is a crucial component of a hoverboard that acts as a CPU. It controls all the functions and sending and receiving of necessary data to control movements. This makes it quicker response time to receive and send data and makes movements faster and easier.
Battery
The Hoverboard runs on batteries which makes it suitable as you won’t need a cable or lead to charge to Hoverboard continuously. A good battery for 36v with 4400mAH is enough for a hoverboard to provide a good running capacity. The power of the Hoverboard comes from the battery to form a movement.
Conclusion
This was a discussion about how Hoverboard works, and we discussed basic functions and working of a hoverboard in detail.
FAQ’s
